Umberto Stefanelli

È sempre una scoperta fermarsi di fronte alle opere di questo fotografo attivo in ogni parte del mondo. Stefanelli benché molto giovane ha ricevuto importanti riconoscimenti per il suo lavoro di fotografo pubblicitario e non solo. In questa fase della sua ricerca notiamo un superamento dell’effetto propagandistico e consumistico a favore di un racconto più intimo, dove la “merce” da raccontare è l’anima, gli affetti, l’umanità in ginocchio, la misericordia, l’amore. Una cosa però rimane costante nel suo operare: l’impaginazione grafica. Il messaggio che l’autore vuole trasmettere è risolto nell’opera attraverso l’organizzazione a collage di pezzi di giornale. Il fatto di cronaca all’attenzione è la notizia della scomparsa del Santo Padre, titolo dell’articolo ed immagine del Pontefice sono poste a chiusura dei lati della composizione, una specie di cornice che racchiude l’immagine del vero protagonista: un bimbo triste del terzo mondo. Il messaggio cristiano che cogliamo è quello dell’immortalità dell’anima, dell’immortalità delle azioni buone che si perpetuano nei bisognosi aiutati, nei disperati ascoltati, nelle preghiere di tutti coloro che sono in difficoltà. Negli occhi di quel bimbo c’è dolore ma anche riconoscenza. Piccole e strette strisce di giornale si sovrappongono tagliando in due metà non tanto l’opera quanto il volto, bellissimo, di quel piccolo uomo che porta su di sé la croce della sua esistenza terrena. Il bimbo non ci guarda, il suo sguardo è altrove…verso una realtà metafisica, mistica, migliore.

It is always a discovery to stop in front of one of the works of this photographer who is active in every part of the world. Stefanelli, even though very young, has received important recognitions for his work as a publicity photographer and not only. In this phase of his search we note a surpassing of the propagandistic and consumistic effect in favor of a more intimate story, where the “merchandise” to tell is the soul, the sentiments, human kind on its knees, compassion, love. One thing however remains the same in his work: the graphic lay-out. The message that the author wants to transmit is resolved in the work through the organization in a collage of pieces of newspapers. The journalistic fact under scrutiny is the news of the death of the Holy Father, the title of the article and the image of the Pontefix are put on the closing edge of the composition, a sort of frame that encloses the image of the real protagonist: a sad child from the third world. The Christian message that we catch is that of the immortality of souls, that of the immortality of good actions that perpetuate themselves in the needy that have been helped, the desperate that have been listened to, the prayers of all those that are in trouble. In the eyes of that child there is not only pain but also gratefulness. Small and narrow strips of newspaper overlap cutting in two halves not so much the work as the face, beautiful, of that small man that carries the cross of his earthly existence. The child doesn’t look at us, his look is elsewhere….towards a metaphysical, mystic, better reality.

o ha proiettato nel cosmo del “Cavaliere Errante e dei Suoi Sogni”. Una prima mostra, specifica sul Saio di San Francesco, si è tenuta nel 2009 all’interno della Chiesa di S. Andrea , in piazza S. Gregorio al Celio, a Roma. La prossima si terrà dal 3 al 4 maggio al Palazzo Duca di York di Frascati. Ne è in programma un’altra – dal 24 ottobre al 4 novembre 2012 – presso Palazzo Valentini, Sala Egon Von Fustenberg, sede della Provincia di Roma. La mostra che si terrà nella Sede Vescovile della Diocesi Tuscolana, sarà allestita nei locali della Rocca, una volta adibiti a scuderie, che sono stati trasformati recentemente dal Vescovo Raffaello Martinelli, estimatore dell’opera sul “Saio di San Francesco”, in modo di creare uno spazio molto suggestivo e funzionale per eventi artistici e culturali.
