Francesco Lupo

FRANCESCO LUPO

Ghosts from beyond the grave, fantastic visions, disturbing nightmares, spectral projections is what we find in his work for this project. The artist is a mature man who has lived a hard life and is aware of the earthly existence as a passage towards a different and immortal life. Like a lot of the –isms that have given a name to the 20th century avant gardes and to the philosophical veins of the same, the word existentialism too is due to Freud and the discovery of psychoanalysis, that has allowed man to explore himself in depth and to discover what is the cause of the unbalances or what makes up our most authentic ego. Francesco is what he does, analyses his own unrest and anguish, making them into material for his work, and through this analysis exorcises his ghosts and deepest black holes. The consecutive value that is also optimistic remains indisputable; being a man and an artist of great ideals, he considers this procedure necessary for a regeneration from the depth of one’s being. Consideration for the interior world is here made available to art as well as to the conscious and necessary rebirth of each of us. The deformed and elongated image in black and white suggests a cry from the soul, a black soul prey to anxieties and fears, disoriented and imploring. But the eyes of this figure betray the tragedy of the event and re-dimension the whole work. From the crossroads of that look, a disconcerting irony seems to unexpectedly come forth after the dark thunderstorm of our first approach to the work. This is where in the same image tragic existentialism makes way for a rainbow of awareness that leads to interior rebirth and a new hope for life.
