Betty Bee

Artista napoletana al centro delle cronache d’arte da molti anni, presente in numerose collezioni e mostre, attira su di sé l’attenzione e la curiosità di chiunque, e lo fa in maniera palese e chiara, in toni forti e decisi, senza allusioni. Betty Bee è un fenomeno d’arte involontaria, non c’è dunque intenzionalità nel suo lavoro, ma solo l’assecondazione di un istinto, primordiale ed irrinunciabile di essere teatrale e kitsch al punto di potersi esibire, provocare e giocare con il proprio corpo e la propria sessualità. Il bisogno, patologico, di attenzioni, il piacere di essere guardata, scrutata, esplorata nei suoi aspetti più intimi, questa mercificazione del proprio corpo, la sua teatralità spudorata, vengono attraverso il suo lavoro esorcizzati. Betty mette in scena le sue ossessioni, i suoi buchi neri, la sua pornografica sessualità come fosse una terapia o un’analisi al fine di rigenerarsi, purificarsi, di lavare le proprie colpe per volgere, proprio grazie al lavoro e attraverso dunque le sue opere, ad una sorta di santificazione. In lei più che mai i confini tra arte e vita si confondono e fondono in un’unica cosa. In questa immagine avvolta in un’atmosfera sfocata e calda, la solita bad girl, sdraiata su un letto bianco candido e avvolta da leggeri e trasparenti orpelli color rosa confetto, assorta ed eccitata fantastica di situazioni erotiche. Le forme rotonde, la posa volgare, palesa il messaggio, non lo vela, non lo allude. La foto alle spalle della protagonista ribadisce la scena da budoir in cui la ragazza vive e si muove, mentre i fiori del primo piano, oltre a diventare importanti macchie di colore in un’immagine dalla prevalenza di toni chiari, suggeriscono l’eden terrestre raggiungibile attraverso il possesso di quella donna ma anche di quell’opera. Possedere dunque un’opera di Betty equivale a possedere lei.

Betty Bee is an involuntary art phenomenon, therefore there is no intentionality in her work, just compliance with an instinct, primordial and not forgoing her right to be theatrical and kitsch, to the point of being able to exhibit herself, provocating and playing with her own body and sexuality. The need, pathologic, of attention, the pleasure of being watched, scrutinized, explored in her most intimate aspects, the commercializing of her own body, her shameless histrionics, become exorcised through her work. Betty puts her obsessions on stage, her black holes, her pornographic sexuality as if it were a therapy or an analysis to regenerate, to purify herself, to wash her guilt away in order to turn it, thanks to her work and hence through her works, into some kind of sanctification. In her more than ever the boundaries between art and life become blurred and melt into one single thing.

In this image wrapped in an unfocused and hot atmosphere, the usual “bad girl”, lying on a snow-white bed and wrapped up in light and transparent sweet pink tinsels, absorbed and fantastically excited by erotic situations. The round shapes, the vulgar pose, the message obvious, she doesn’t hide it, she doesn’t allude to it. The photo behind the heroin confirms the boudoir scene in which the girls lives and moves, while the flowers in the foreground, besides becoming important stains of color in an image of mostly light tones, suggest the earthly paradise that can be reached through possessing that lady but also that work. Hence possessing a work of Betty equals possessing her.
